I often felt nauseous before going to school because of the humiliation which I faced from the teachers.
The only way to survive school was to do something creative – to photograph and
to make movies.
In the age of 11 I got my first photo camera in a trade for 20 empty lemonade and beer cans...
My classmate Rinalds had a double 8 mm camera. The one who’d come up with an idea would take the role of the actor, other one would be the cameraman. Or the other way around. We’d shoot what we thought was “cool” to be filmed. Movies called “I.R.Piktuers” (I. = Ivars, R. = Rinalds, Piktuers = twisted word “pictures”) were mostly made between 1992-1993 at the elementary school in Riga.
After the studies at the department of still photography (FAMU) in Prague, I started to work with my childhood archive from 90's.
